Are you familiar with the public bicycle systems currently in operation in various regions?

Public bicycles offer several advantages, such as low fees and being environmentally friendly.

It is also an excellent means of transportation and sightseeing, especially for tourists who lack personal transportation!

Today, we will introduce some recommended public bicycles and bicycle tour routes in the city.

Let's begin😎

In Seoul, the public bicycle system is called "Seoulbike," and one of its key advantages is the convenient rental and return process, with bike stations located all around the city. Seoulbike is loved by many due to its affordable pricing, making it an ideal option for commuting or exercising. There are also smaller and lighter bikes, known as "Sae-ssak Seoulbike," which are designed for children, teenagers, and elderly individuals, making them accessible to people with smaller builds. One of the most popular and attractive routes, voted as the best by citizens, is the "Hangang River Night View Course." This route, which starts at Ttukseom Hangang Park and stretches about 13 km through Donghodaegyo Bridge, Banpodaegyo Bridge, and Nodeulseom Island, offers spectacular views of the Hangang River’s key nightscapes. Since the course runs along the river, the bike lanes are wide and well-maintained, making for a comfortable and pleasant ride. To enjoy this course, you can rent a Seoulbike at the 588 Ttukseom Hangang Park Bike Rental Station and return it at the Nodeulseom Island West Side Bike Rental Station!

Daejeon's public bicycle system, called "Tashu," is named after the phrase "Taseyo," which means "Please get on" in the Chungcheong dialect. It is the first public bicycle system implemented in Korea. One of Tashu's key advantages is that the basic usage fee is free for the first hour. If you're traveling short distances, you can ride for free, and even if you exceed an hour, the price is affordable at 500 KRW per additional 30 minutes. Daejeon is an ideal city for bicycle tours, with its main roads being flat and its hills gentle. A recommended course starts at the Munchang Market public parking lot, follows the well-maintained bike paths along Daejeoncheon Stream and Yudeungcheon Stream, and ends at the Ppuri Park. This route allows you to experience various attractions of the city all at once. You can visit historical landmarks like the Bomunsan Observatory and Bomunsangseong, or stop by Sungsimdang, a famous bakery located near the starting point at the Jungangno Station area!

Gyeongju’s public bicycle system, "Tashilla," cleverly combines the fact that Gyeongju is the site of the ancient kingdom of 'Silla' with the Korean word 'Tada' (meaning 'to ride'), encouraging the use of bicycles. Tashilla operates from 6AM to midnight, which provides plenty of time to explore Gyeongju within these hours. A recommended route starts at the bike rental station near Daereungwon, heads to Cheomseongdae, then to Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, before returning to Daereungwon. Cheomseongdae and Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond are famous landmarks in Gyeongju, and you shouldn't miss the special opportunity to visit them by bicycle! Along the way, you’ll also encounter beautiful paths such as the stone walls surrounding Daereungwon and the flower gardens next to Cheomseongdae. However, please note that you cannot take Tashilla bicycles inside the historical sites, so be sure to check the location via the app and park your bike at the rental station before visiting.

Yeosu's public bicycle system, "Yeosurang," provides a helmet along with the bike basket, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable cycling experience. While Yeosu's city center lacks many dedicated bike lanes, you can still explore the city with ease by using the recommended cycling routes! Route 1 takes you through Yeosu's city center, Route 2 offers views of the sea and nearby islands, and Route 3 allows you to enjoy the mudflats and stunning sunsets. One course we particularly recommend is the old railway bike path. With the opening of the KTX Jeolla Line, the old railway tracks of the Jeolla Line were converted into a bike path, offering a relaxing and scenic ride. Unlike other routes, this one features a gentle path, allowing you to enjoy not only the bike lanes but also walking paths, forests, and public resting areas. A highlight of this course is the "Olim Tunnel," an old train tunnel where you can also admire art pieces on the tunnel walls!

Explore the stories and beautiful landscapes of Jeonju while riding its public bicycle, "Kkotsing-i," famous for its Hanok Village! "Kkotsing-i" is a combination of the word "Kkotsim(The power to bloom)," meaning the spirit of Jeonju, and "Sing," meaning to ride briskly, symbolizing the city's vibrant and energetic nature. There are a total of 10 rental stations in Jeonju, where you can rent a bike through an in-person process. Unlike other public bike systems, Kkotsing-i doesn't require a mobile app, but you'll need either a Korean SIM card or assistance from the host of your accommodation for identification purposes. Jeonju offers 8 main bicycle routes, and if you'd like to focus on the city's famous Hanok buildings, we recommend the Girin-daero Road route! This route starts at the Korea Expressway Corporation Arboretum and goes all the way to Jeonju Hyanggyo, where you'll be amazed by the long stretch of scenic bike paths. Once you reach Jeonju Hyanggyo, take your time to enjoy the Hanok Village!

The public bicycle system in Gijang-gun, Busan, is called "Tabanna," a unique and friendly name derived from the Gyeongsang dialect expression "Tabwatni," meaning "Have you ever ridden it??" As it is operated by a county rather than a city, it can only be used within Gijang County. Rent a Tabanna bike and ride along the Jwagwangcheon Bicycle Path in Gijang! This long trail, which stretches from Jeonggwan-eup to Imrang Beach, serves as both a walking and cycling path. It takes about an hour by bike to travel from the starting point of Jwagwangcheon to Imrang Beach, offering not only a great cycling path but also stunning scenery. Jwagwangcheon has historically been known for its clear waters, and even with the surrounding city development, the creek continues to be praised for its clean water and thriving ecosystem. While riding, you can spot a variety of fish, from large carp to small minnows, and occasionally, otters are also seen in the area!
